Troubleshooting: symptom, cause, fix
One table per area. Find the symptom, read the likely cause, do the fix. Sign-in, the resume, scores, the extension, applying, the tracker and billing.
Find the symptom. The cause column is the likely one rather than the only one.
Signing in and the account
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Only job listings are reachable | The email address is not confirmed | Open the confirmation link, or resend it from the account screen |
| A screen asks for a sign-in | It produces or keeps something | Sign in. You are returned to the thing you pressed |
| Signed out unexpectedly | The session expired | Sign in again. The extension picks the new session up on its own |
| The confirmation email never arrived | It was filtered, or the address has a typo | Resend from the account screen, and check the address shown there |
The resume
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Roles missing or scrambled | A two-column or table layout in the original file | See fixing a document that parses badly |
| Bullets under the wrong employer | The parse split a role in the wrong place | Correct it on the parse screen |
| A role shows no dates | The dates were in a header or an image | Add them on the parse screen |
| Nothing to tailor with | No resume on the account yet | Upload one under Upload or replace it |
Scores
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No score anywhere | Scoring is a paid step | The one-off credit is the cheapest way to see one |
| No score on one listing | The posting has no readable description | Paste the description into the tailoring screen |
| The score looks far too low | The parse lost part of your history | Check the parse before rewriting anything |
| Fit will not move | Fit is about your background, not the file | Apply to roles where it is already reasonable |
The extension
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing on the page at all | No site permission, or a browser settings page | Press the button again and accept, or open the form itself |
| Fill button greyed out | The page cannot be filled, or the plan does not cover it | Hover it. The title says which |
| No resume stored yet | The snapshot never arrived | Open Involve signed in and parse your resume |
| A red line about LinkedIn | It is blocked there and never runs | Apply on that site yourself |
| A queue staged files and stopped | No permission for the queued sites | Press start again and accept in that click |
The longer version of this table is in when the extension shows nothing.
Applying
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A job says refused | The board is on the refused list | Use the copy-out screen and apply yourself |
| A run stopped part way | A board challenged it | Finish that one by hand. It is recorded as not sent |
| Sending is not offered | Sending needs Pro Max | Fill the forms instead, and press send yourself |
| Nothing left today | The daily allowance is spent | It resets at midnight; the monthly one resets on the 1st |
The tracker
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| An import read fewer rows than the file has | Those rows had no role, company or link | Fill one of the three in and import again with replace |
| A job appears twice | It arrived from a run and from your own list | They merge at the further-along stage, and a banner names which |
| A rate shows a dash | Nothing has been sent yet | It appears once there is a denominator |
| An exported note starts with an apostrophe | Formula characters are neutralised on the way out | Nothing. It is deliberate |
Billing
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Paid, but a feature is still refused | The plan status is not active yet | Reload the account screen; a refusal is never cached |
| Charged after cancelling | The period already paid for was still running | It stops at the end of that period |
| Two subscriptions | A second was started without cancelling the first | Cancel the one you no longer want from the account screen |
If none of these fit, the honest answer is that the page is wrong or the product is. Both are worth telling us about.
Questions about this
A button does nothing and there is no message.
Check whether the screen needs an account or a plan. Screens that produce or keep something ask for a sign-in, and paid steps name the cheapest plan that includes them.
Everything worked yesterday and nothing works today.
Sign in again. An expired session is the most common cause of a product that appears to have forgotten you.
The number on one screen disagrees with another.
Report it. The allowances are drawn from one source so two screens cannot quote different remainders, and a disagreement is a fault rather than a rounding difference.
Where do I start if the symptom is not listed?
With the parse. A surprising share of odd behaviour downstream is a role that parsed without its employer or its dates.
Start with the parse and the plan
Two checks answer most of these: is your history read correctly, and does your plan include the thing you pressed.
